Two mums, two book lovers, and one shared dream
Welcome to Stirring Pages, a little corner of the Netherlands created by two South African mums with a serious love for
books and a soft spot for a really good story. We’re two forty-something mums who both immigrated to the Netherlands from South Africa.
Somewhere along the way, our shared love of books turned into a friendship, and that friendship grew into a rather wonderful idea: why not make great second-hand English books easier to find for our fellow English-speaking community in Almere and the surrounding areas?
And so, Stirring Pages was born.
Bringing English books to Almere
Finding affordable, good-quality English books can sometimes be a challenge when you live in the Netherlands, especially if you’re looking for second-hand rather than brand-new.
That’s where we hope Stirring Pages can help.
We’re building a collection of pre-loved English books for readers in Almere and beyond — books for quiet evenings, busy mums, bookworms, holiday reading, reluctant readers, avid readers, and
everyone in between. You can browse our webshop from anywhere in the Netherlands, and for those who love the experience of picking up a book, turning the pages and discovering something unexpected, you can also find us soon at markets in Almere.
Because sometimes you don’t know what book you’re looking for until it finds you.
A little dream for the future
At the moment, Stirring Pages is a small business built
around two mums, a love of books and quite a lot of enthusiasm for finding great reads.
But we have a bigger dream.
One day, we’d love to open our very own second-hand English bookshop in Almere.
A cosy little place where you can wander through shelves, browse at your own pace, chat about books, discover something completely unexpected and, hopefully, leave with a new favourite story tucked under your arm.
Until that day comes, we’ll keep searching Amsterdam for bookish treasures, filling our webshop, setting up our market stall and
sharing our love of second-hand English books with our community.
